Marco Surace

Guitarist

Marco Surace (Rome, 1996) began studying classical guitar in 2008 with M° Senio Alirio Diaz. Under the guidance of M° Domenico Ascione, at the Conservatorio 'Santa Cecilia' in Rome, in 2015 he obtained the Bachelor Diploma and in 2018 the Master Diploma in Guitar Performance cum laude.
During his academic studies (a.y. 2016-17) he took part in the ERASMUS project, studying at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Rostock (Germany), under the guidance of M° Nora Buschmann. He is currently attending the Master's Degree Course in Artistic Research in Music at the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia.
In 2020, he graduated cum laude with a Master's Degree in Musicology from the University 'La Sapienza' in Rome, thanks to which he completed an internship at the Italian Cultural Institute in Berlin in 2019. In the field of musicology, his collaboration with prestigious institutions such as the Istituto Superiore di Studi Musicali "L. Boccherini" in Lucca, the Associazione Nuova Consonanza in Roma, La Biennale di Venezia and the Istituzione Universitaria dei Concerti (IUC) in Roma is worth mentioning, as well as the publication of many of his articles and contents for the music popularisation magazine Quinte Parallele and for the Accademia Chigiana in Siena.
Winner of dozens of national and international competitions, he regularly performs in concerts throughout Italy and abroad, both as a soloist and in chamber ensembles (TeaCup8 Guitar Ensemble, Verace Duo, Parallel Duo).
In 2021, Da Vinci Editions published his two original compositions Madeiras Floridas, for flute and guitar and Point B (Homage to Steve Reich) for guitar quartet; moreover his transcription for viola and guitar of Liebestraum n. 3 by Franz Liszt was published in 2018 by EROM editions.
His musical and research activities go hand in hand with his teaching commitment. He holds a specialisation in didactic support activities for pupils with disabilities in secondary schools, obtained at the University “Roma Tre”; he has been a guitar teacher for several years at the Associazione Musicale 'Impronta Sonora' in Rome, while since 2020 he has been teaching music, didactic support and guitar at secondary schools in the provinces of Frosinone and Rome. Since 2023 he’s been adjunct lecturer at Conservatorio “Franco Vittadini” in Pavia and he’s currently stable teacher at the I.C. Antonio Vivaldi in Rome.
